Liane Emond

Liane was a member here for three years before joining our staff in 2011.

With a goal to lose weight, Liane began running almost 15 years ago. She joined the Monadnock Milers which she said really helped. It's easier to make an excuse to not exercise if it's only you. But if you have a buddy or a whole group waiting for you, it keeps you honest. In 2006 Liane completed her first sprint triathlon. "I really felt great, like I could do anything after that. So the following year Liane ran her first marathon, in Manchester. Weight training and cycling classes also help her keep fit and happy. Besides losing weight and improving her physical health, Liane said the biggest benefit from all her training has been a boost in her confidence.

"I feel better in every way. I want others to understand that they can feel better, get healthy even when it seems impossible. It's not impossible. I'm proof of that."

Judy Surdam

Instructor

Judy works out hard at the gym, so she can play even harder outdoors. Working as a veterinarian, and raising three children has kept Judy busy, but not too busy to play. A friend introduced her to mountain biking a few years ago. She was hooked. “I loved the adrenaline rush.”

But her love affair with the sport came to a sudden halt when she launched into a tree. An accident that would have kept anyone else from getting back on the bike, was merely an interruption.

A bone sticking out of her thigh, multiple surgeries and doctors warning, “you'll never walk normally again...”

She promptly ignored the docs and rehabbed like a champion. Six months after the accident, Judy was back in the saddle. Pedal with Judy or any of our cycle intructors for a fun, challenging workout that's perfect for the never-evers and seasoned cyclists.
